Reese Witherspoon Is the Latest Celebrity Learning to Paint in Lockdown. Surprise, Surprise… She’s Pretty Great at That, Too

Reese Witherspoon, actress,
producer, fashion entrepreneur, literary tastemaker, and now,
artist? 

Yes, it’s true. Witherspoon took
to her social media accounts this weekend to share her latest
hobby: watercolor painting. She posted a picture of herself working
at her dining room table on a study of a flower bouquet. And, like
everything she touches, it was pretty damn good. 

“I’m quitting my day job!” she
wrote, and thanked her mom for the art supplies. 

The internet heaped the actress
with praise while also remarking on her all-white
outfit—a bold move for a
first timer—and yet, there was nary a paint stain to be
found.  

Witherspoon, who is known for
having the same kind of type-A personality IRL as she often
portrays in movies, has had a busy quarantine. Aside from picking
up painting, she also conducted numerous virtual interviews to
promote her new show Little Fires Everywhere (and
even sold her dad’s
car to Offset from the hip-hop group Migos. 

She also endured one
not-so-successful moment when her fashion line, Draper James,
launched a campaign to give teachers a free dress as a token of
appreciation for their efforts to make the transition to remote
learning. Nearly one million teachers applied for the reward—a
number the relatively small company, which has fewer than 30
employees and only 250 dresses, could not come close to delivering
on, resulting in a PR fiasco and numerous public
apologies.

Witherspoon is not the only
celebrity to use the lockdown to try out art. Sharon Stone showed
a basic instinct for painting with her first effort back in March.
Meanwhile, Paris Hilton has
apparently been spending a lot of time in her
“studio,” which looks
like a tweenage girl’s bedroom that Lisa Frank threw up in. Her
trenchant word-based works bear phrases like “Stars are Blind” and
“Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”
